Travelogue: Kelowna, BC (Part 1)

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

We took a road trip down to Kelowna this weekend – drove down on Friday night and came back on Sunday! It was a 5 hour drive down (we keep going further every week!) but it was so worth it. Luckily for us, we were graciously hosted by Andrew and Hsu in Kelowna and they made us feel right at home! They brought us around and even gave us an entire list of what to do, places to eat before the trip, which was really helpful for planning our itinerary! Technically we had only about a day and a half to explore since we spent most of the time on the road but we managed to do quite a lot in that amount of time.

We reached Kelowna at about midnight so it was pitch dark and we couldn’t see anything around the house. So imagine our surprise the next day when we woke up to this incredible view…

The house was facing the Okanagan lake! So beautiful beyond words.

IMG_2185After we woke up, Hsu brought us to have apricots in her garden. We had them right when we picked them from the tree and it was so fresh and sweet! Her garden also has other fruits like peaches! I wish I could pick fruits from my own backyard – loving the country life.

Destination #1: Farmer’s Market!

All seven of us 😀 IMG_2099

The market sold all kinds of food, crafts, everything! IMG_2100 IMG_2110 IMG_2113 IMG_2117 IMG_2120

What I found special was the Wine Jelly! Kelowna’s known for its wineries so I decided to buy a tub of wine jelly home to try.

Destination #2: Woodfire Bakery

Recommended by Andrew and Hsu, this is a german restaurant that has won many awards!! Everything that we ordered was really tasty, definitely worth a try!

Destination #3: UBC Okanagan

Since most of us are UBCV students, we wanted to visit UBCO to see what it was like! Thanks to Nicolas, we got a good tour of the school! It was a really new and beautiful school, surrounded by mountains and nature.

Twilight Poster 😀 IMG_2157 IMG_2158 IMG_2164 IMG_2168

Their library looks so comfortable! 🙂 IMG_2169

Destination #4: Peachwave Frozen Yogurt!

Kelowna gets sweltering hot and dry in summer. When we were there, the temperatures rose up to past 30 degree celsius and I could really feel the sun rays piercing into my skin! They’re also known for their forest fires since their heat and dryness is so extreme. Thus, we decided that the best thing to do on a sunny day is to have FROYO!

Destination #5: Quail’s Gate Winery

Since Kelowna is known for its wineries, how can we miss taking a winery tour? 🙂

I think the pictures are pretty good in depicting what we saw and did! We got to taste 3 different types of wine. My favorite was the white wine which we brought back for the night! We got to learn about the entire process of making wine. IMG_2242 IMG_2247 IMG_2259 IMG_2260

The girls!

Destination #6: Kelowna Mountain

IMG_2293 IMG_2295 IMG_2297This is an example of a mountain that went through a forest fire! It was mostly barren land.. We heard from Hsu that someone bought over the entire mountain and now it is private property! We wanted to go to the suspension bridges in the mountain but it was closed, so we headed for dinner!

Destination #7: Wings Night!

I forgot the name of the restaurant, but the wings were AMAZING. Looking at these pictures at 2AM is such a bad move. There were 12 different flavors, so we tried 10 flavors and ordered more of our favorites! For those that know me, chicken wings are my weakness… They were only 35 cents each too! 😀 It was so satisfying!

After dinner, Andrew and Hsu brought us to this park near their house to stargaze. There were so many stars, even more than what we saw in Abbotsford!

IMG_2305Drinks, games and good company to end the night.

I wanted to write about the entire trip in a post, but this post is getting too lengthy! Now that I wrote our destinations out – I realized that we actually went to 8 places in a day!!! No wonder I crashed the moment I hit the sack.

Stay tuned for Part 2! 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Love,

Elizabeth
